So today I've been playing catch-up with season 2 of NCIS:LA. Mostly to get to the episodes where Nate reappears. I think I'm nearly there. And still I came away with a complete set up and plot for a Fringe/Hawaii Five-0 crossover. Oh, brain.

*files it under Crazy Shit That Will Never Get Written*

Speaking of which, Friiiiiiiiiiinge. No more episodes for two months, and I made the mistake of watching the promo. I NEED THIS IN MY LIFE NOW, I CAN'T WAIIIIIIT.

Community's been shunted to indefinite hiatus as well. Whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy :'(

I'm way behind on my writing/fic assignments. I might have started one, but I don't seem to have saved it anywhere, and I still can't settle on a plot for the other. Gah. It doesn't help that my netbook is well and truly dying and I'm having major troubles finding an affordable replacement.

I have lists, though. Various fics that either need to get started or are actually in progress, and the growing list of vidbunnies. And a reading list, fic and books I need to get around to.

On the bright side, I've been making excellent progress catching up on sleep this week.

So I've had another madcap weekend with la familia. We ended up traipsing around London yesterday in search of the perfect flat-pack furniture arrangement. I don't even remember what happened on Saturday. No, wait - lots of packing and moving of boxes. Enjoy spending time with the family, not so much on the getting co-opted into hard labour.

Then it was decided that today was going to be a Day Off - one that got promptly filled with more furniture shopping.

I have, however, ended up with a feather quilt (not quill, it's important to make these distinctions, y'know) and new bedding. So yay!

In conclusion: X Factor is boring, Fringe is weird when viewed on a tiny screen with headphones, and never, ever ask Middle Sister's opinion on reality television. Or dinosaurs vs unicorns. Pretty much anything. She's brilliant, as long as you're not planning on doing anything else while she gets her rant on. (Like, say, writing. Whoops!)

PS: I would watch the living hell out of this movie:

My irrational hatred for the day: Box pleats. Way more trouble than they're worth. It took me over two hours today to get the shapes into over a dozen of the blasted little things. Not a happy bunny at all, but at least they got done in the end.

I haven't done much besides work and sleep this week. I'm up to date with a couple of shows, and I still haven't written anything that isn't work related for ages now. I've got titles and outlines for the two exchanges I'm taking part in, and assorted fic and vid bunnies that I will eventually get around to.

Aaaaaaaaaaand that's pretty much all there is. My life is boring right now.

In bullet point form, because thinking is hard.

-If I survive this week, I am throwing myself a party. One that consists of lots of blankets and Skype. Maybe even a Thermos so I don't have to move. Didn't get out of work until after 6.30 this evening, and this is only the beginning - idiot colleague forgot to tell us that our major upcoming deadline was Thursday. She's known for a week and only this morning passed it on. We now have two days to kit out three or four rooms. Grr.

-Special mention goes to the idiotcustomer who called me sweetie pie. While I was trying to organise a delivery with her. She's just turned her particular brand of insanity up a notch and we are not impressed.

-Homeland, Revenge and Terra Nova are all really good, and an excellent distraction from points #1 and #2. Next on my to-try list are Nikita and Warehouse 13.

-I learned today that the best person to ask about the logistics of making a skull float is in fact my mum, which is awesome, really.

Ugh, life. And that is all I have to say on the matter.

I've finally got a plot for my [livejournal.com profile] h50_holidayswap assignment! Now I just have to write it. Still pleeeeeenty of time for that, though. I need to get back into writing in general, actually. I don't think I've done any fresh writing since finishing my last WIP over a month ago. And I've got nothing else on the go at the moment, either, which hasn't been doing anything for my motivation.

What I have been doing is catching up on NCIS:LA. I've got as far as Nate's farewell episode, and not really looking forward to a Nate-less future. I need to schedule myself some rewatches in the near future - s1 of Hawaii Five-0 and s5 of Primeval should do the trick, methinks.

And it's cooooooold outside. Blinking weather. I don't like it, especially now Mum and I have taken to wandering around boot fairs again. I think we're going to try and get around 2 this weekend. Better dig out the thick socks in preparation!

I think I'm mostly up to date with everything this week, yay!

Hawaii Five-0 - Can I HTML with squinty eyes? Let's see... )

Community - CRISIS ALERT! )

Fringe - Blue + Red = Yellow? )

Sanctuary - How time flies... )

So I received my [livejournal.com profile] h50_holidayswap assignment this morning.

.

That is all.

In other news OH THERE IS NO OTHER NEWS. Except for this mini heat wave thing finally breaking, so there's a chance I won't bake alive at work today. Also I think I'm being kidnapped for lunch. At some point I'm putting in an appearance at my dad's so he won't passive-aggressively bitch about me missing his birthday slash him not getting his present and my sisters are planning to surprise me later. Kind of fearing for my life right now - with those two, literally anything is possible.

People who think that curtains made out of fire-retardanted upholstery-thickness material would be the awesomest thing ever should be shot smacked in the face with a smelly fish and made to see the very big error of their ways. I'm getting skinny needles in tomorrow to finish the job as this will hopefully minimise the chances of my fingers being torn to shreds, but I am not looking forward to it one little bit.

Now to find something to cheer me up.

The majority of the US/Canadian shows I watch start back up this week \o/ There goes any semblance of a life I had!

Hawaii Five-0 2.01 Ha'i'ole - Spoilers! )

Flashpoint 4.08 Grounded - Solid episode, some interesting character moments and real life parallels. Nice and reliable :D

Castle 4.01 Rise - Spoilers! )

In short, definitely a rewatch or two in order. And not a bad way to start the week at all!

I've set up the work website \o/

Well, there's an 'under construction' sign. But I've figured out the basics of the hosting site, and the construction sign is specifically to buy me some time to put a proper site together.

Phew. Now onto more fannish pursuits!

oooooops

Things I was supposed to do this evening:
- Look into setting up a temporary website for work.
- Finish the next section of my big bang fic.
- Make a picspam.

Things I have actually done this evening:
- Dissected American procedural/cop shows with a friend ahead of returning shows' premieres in a couple of weeks.
- Installed a HTML editor to create the work website on and researched a couple of web hosts.
- Drunk copious amounts of tea and watched another two episodes of Hustle.

...So yeah, that could have gone better. I'm more worried about the website than anything else, because I need to get something up in the next couple of days, even if it's just an 'under construction' type page.

On the other hand I've been bunnying myself for several new fics, at least two of which are for shows I've never written before. I might end up saving those for after the big bang deadline - I've been wavering back and forth on whether to actually go through with it, and I've finally decided I should. The whole thing unnerves me big time; I just want to be able to do the idea justice.

So yesterday was quite fun. Stayed in pjs all day and watched a bunch of things on telly, including something called The Great British Bake Off which Mum keeps wanting me to remind her about when it's on, but I remember the controversy (ie the epic argument we had) the morning after the last Masterchef winner was announced, so maybe I'll keep forgetting ;)

I've basically been making the most of my brother's tv before he comes back from the West Country at the beginning of next week to reclaim it. My GameCube is hooked up to it at the moment, which is always awesome.

Key to defeating the Fire Temple: Play whac-a-mole with a pissed off ancient dragon and SMASH ITS HEAD IN with a hammer.

Key to defeating the Water Temple: Hook the water monster and STAB REPEATEDLY UNTIL DED.

And then there was today. Woke up at about 4 this morning rather violently ill, and I'm now in the middle of affixing stupid press studs to stupid aprons. There are 50 aprons. 8 studs apiece makes 400 of the stupid things to affix.

...I've done 4 aprons and that took me almost an hour. Going to keep going until my ratio of successfully applied to mangled studs becomes dangerous.

(I'm calling them stupid because the alternative can't be repeated on daytime tv. On the other hand, smashing the stupid things with a hammer is excellent anger management.)

On the plus side I'm all out of family birthdays \o/ I really, really don't like August all that much. The next two aren't until October, so that's alright :D
thelibraniniquity: (Default)
I've been watching lots of things lately, because my brother's 40" TV is awesome and he's coming back to claim it the week after next. It has a usb port, which I'm going to miss ;)

Telly )

Films )

I've still got the original Planet Of The Apes queued up to watch, as well as a few other films whose names escape me right now. And a couple more pilot episodes, since it's not worth burning them off unless I've got a significant chunk of the season to go with them.
thelibraniniquity: (Default)
I watched Tron: Legacy last night. And yeah, it was kinda fun and very pretty and there was even a half decent story lurking behind the crazy lightshow (way less trippy than the original, thank goodness).

BUT. All the way though, all I could keep thinking about was the lead actor person. He reminded me of someone. Two someones, specifically.

Abandon hope all ye...? )

Also, [livejournal.com profile] explodedpen? You were right. GI Joe is somewhat bad, and not in the good way.
thelibraniniquity: (Default)
I've written more than 4700 words of fic today. I'm pretty sure that is by far the most I have ever written in a single day - that I can remember, anyway. It's definitely the most I've written in the last few years.

Hawaii Five-0 has officially broken my brain. Trouble is, I kinda like it.

I even like most of what I've written, give or take a potentially shippy scene towards the end there (too much? too little? I never know when it comes to these things), but I'll be way more objective after sleeping on it.

One hopes ;)
thelibraniniquity: (Default)
So it turns out the only downside of having a friend come and stay for a long weekend with you is the constant grabby hands for websites you're still logged into.

BUT BUT BUT. [livejournal.com profile] explodedpen and I have finally watched the fifth series of Primeval and OH OUR GODS. Minds, blown. Our nerves were genuinely shot by the time the finale's end credits started to roll.

Spoilers. )

We've also committed our second Beckerfic together. All 6000 odd words of it this time around. Going to give it some room to breathe before posting, but we're pretty chuffed with that. And I have a Pen sat in my armchair already demanding we start the next one. Oy.

So in short: yay, awesome, [livejournal.com profile] explodedpen is a highly recommnded treatment for writer's block and general insecurities. And she's making victory arms right now. No lie.
thelibraniniquity: (Default)
A seagull kamikaze'd into my living room window earlier this evening. I peeked my head out just in time to see it shake itself down and wander off all bemused-like.

[livejournal.com profile] numb3rs_novella has gone live, with the first story/art combo posted today! I made a trailer for [livejournal.com profile] munchkinofdoom's story, which goes up sometime tomorrow. She wrote an intriguing Primeval/Numb3rs crossover that is well worth checking out.

I've officially taken custody of my brother's 40" flatscreen tellybox, and once I can get a cheap remote configured to it (silly boy took the proper one back to the West Country), I AM ALL SET TO GO \o/

Speaking of awesome things, [livejournal.com profile] explodedpen is coming to visit in a couple of weeks! By visit, I mean travel halfway across the country just to watch the last series of Primeval. There will be tea and junk food and generally not much in the way of sleep. It's going to be awesome :D

I have also come to the conclusion that Hawaii Five-0 is my new shamelessly self-indulgent happy place. I mean really - in what other show could you have someone threaten to drop a man onto a remote Pacific island from 20,000 feet up and it not be in the least bit cracky or OOC? (That fic is totally pending.) I've already written a Doctor Who crossover and a superhero AU. It can only get better from here :D
thelibraniniquity: (Default)
- finished my [livejournal.com profile] numb3rs_novella trailer! And it's not even due 'til the end of next week!
- spent a couple of hours at work finishing things off
- picked up my Primeval DVDs from the post office because the postman didn't buzz
- bought a birthday present for a friend
- did not buy myself all manner of books, computer games and utensils

Yeah, I'm cool. Also tired, thanks so several late nights of writing and vidding. Going to flop on the sofa and watch shiny new Flashpoint now :D
thelibraniniquity: (Default)
Finished the 6th season of NCIS, some two and a half years after I started it, and now getting stuck into season 7. The storytelling really picked up after my previous cut-off point, and I've been really enjoying it. Another two seasons until I'm all caught up, plus there's the spin-off to sample. Liked what I saw in the backdoor pilot, which is a promising start.

I think Boris is dying. I've had this netbook almost two years now, and over the last few months I've been experiencing problems with the power cable almost-but-not-quite-always connecting, and the screen randomly whiting out. I've started looking at refurbished models online, and it's looking promising so far.

And now, to get some more writing done. Either the big bang project, or something significantly shorter? Hm...
thelibraniniquity: (Default)
Unsurprisingly I'm struggling to motivate myself to tackle my longer Primeval WIP. So I've been busy reminding myself that I've abandoned lots of stories before. And having fun reading some of my older fic-related LJ entries in the process.

This one listing out WIPs is a little over 3 years old, and contains some gems I'd forgotten about! I think it would be quite cool if I could finish some of the SGA ones, especially. Like the one I started for [livejournal.com profile] explodedpen's birthday three and a half years ago. Two and a half? Three and a half? Either way, still slightly belated!

I'll make an updated list of all my WIPs tomorrow, and tot up some stats and things just so see what's there, and maybe even post them with snippety type things.

And I'm going to post this entry before I get too swept up in dusty fic lists!
