So it turns out the only downside of having a friend come and stay for a long weekend with you is the constant grabby hands for websites you're still logged into.

BUT BUT BUT. explodedpen and I have finally watched the fifth series of Primeval and OH OUR GODS. Minds, blown. Our nerves were genuinely shot by the time the finale's end credits started to roll.

NOBODY DIED \o/ Although we came very close to yelling at the various fake-outs and close calls. LESTERRRRRRRRRRRRRRR. And everyone was awesome. Even Burton turned out to be more than one-dimensional in the end - who'da thunk that silly little dinosaur show could pull off something like that at the eleventh hour?

It was genuinely fantastic. We were very impressed. And nervous freaking wrecks.

But it was worth the wait, definitely :D

We've also committed our second Beckerfic together. All 6000 odd words of it this time around. Going to give it some room to breathe before posting, but we're pretty chuffed with that. And I have a Pen sat in my armchair already demanding we start the next one. Oy.

So in short: yay, awesome, explodedpen is a highly recommnded treatment for writer's block and general insecurities. And she's making victory arms right now. No lie.

Though I liked S4, I was a mite disappointed in it, in some ways. But S5 was waaaaay better, once it got rolling. The last three eps are really stupendous.

I was really pleased with the way they made Philip turn out to be less of a villain than a misguided man convinced he was doing right. I felt for him, at the end. And the twist at the end... please let there be a series 6!

And Lester was wonderful.

S4 had a really disappointing dip in the middle with what were clearly filler episodes, and wasted reappearances from Jenny and Danny (I just think they were largely under-utilised), but s5 seriously picked up the slack and was so much better for it.

I love the direction they took with Philip. explodedpen and I agree the misguided good intentions were far more believable and compelling (and tragic given his end!) than someone completely creepy and in it for his own ends, ie Leek.

The hook - now that was intriguing!

And Lester was awesome. And he rocked that cane at the end. In short: we was very impressed!

JAWS DROPPED COULDN'T TAKE OUR EYES OFF THE SCREEN! Though between the bugs and the fake-outs and the WHERE IS EMOPANTS OMG we're pretty glad we didn't watch it separately ;)

Yes, the end was totally awesome AND NO ONE DIED!!!!!

I had an amusing email from Tim Haines afterwards in which he said that they had taken on board that they'd killed rather too many people (although it wasn't their fault Dougie bailed!), so I like to think that in our own way Denial contributed to people's survival!

NOBODY KICKED IT! \o/ That was pretty much our biggest worry about watching s5 separately, that Becker someone was going to die, especially after the 0 main character body count in s4.

I approve of Tim Haines' sentiment so much. There are so many other good ways to crank up the drama than just kill someone off, and s5 ticked virtually all of those boxes for me.
