Meme! Pinched from [livejournal.com profile] lady_drace.

15 Years Ago (July 1996)
- Mum took me and some friends to the cinema for my birthday. Some Disney film, can't remember which, but I'm pretty sure there are photos still.
- My youngest sister was born.
- My best friend moved to Australia with her family - on the same day that Littlest Sis was born, actually.

10 Years Ago...etc... )

Finally got around to the Sanctuary season finale. That was... better than I expected. Curses, going to have to stick around for s4 now!

White Collar was fun this week! Not sure how much longer they can keep dragging the mini-arc thing out, but hopefully thre'll be pay off. Read some interesting Neal centred meta that made a lot of valid points about both Neal and Peter's characterisation in show and in fandom.

Leverage and Rizzoli & Isles start up again soon. Looking forward to those!

I have yet to catch up with either Primeval or Doctor Who, but this Rory gif made me giggle so much. (Contains s6 spoilers.)

Also, this is my new favourite thing to check for updates: Criminal Minds Meets 'Texts From Last Night'.

The Game Has Changed by [livejournal.com profile] zap99nad. Post-finale Danny reflecting on everything that's happened, and wonderfully done.

Very, very watchable.

Every so often, either out of nostalgia or sheer boredom, I skim my old profile page at fanfiction.net. It goes back to around 2003, when I first started writing serious fanfiction instead of just odd bits and things. I like to think I've improved since then, as writing like anything else is a learning curve.

Cut for length. And a side of navel-gazing. )

I found out this morning that my dad managed to make my sister cry at work the other day - by ignoring her completely. He was there with our brother, who nodded and waved - and Dad refused to do even that. Needless to say, nobody's impressed and it looks like the three of us are boycotting Father's Day in favour of an afternoon at Mum's. Infinitely less repression - and possibly pie.

I'm still resentful of the fact he managed to make me cry on my last birthday (which we share), just by being his usual clueless, douchey self. Blergh.

Onto more cheerful things.

I signed up for [livejournal.com profile] five0bang today as an author *and* artist. SOMEBODY HOLD ME. Got my story possibilities down to two, either a crossover or extended casefic - and I can totally see me writing both regardless of which ends up being submitted for the Big Bang.

In semi-related news, I found out last night that Alex O'Loughlin, who plays McGarrett in Five-0 guested on Criminal Minds a couple of years ago as an unsub. MIND BLOWN. And so going to be rewatching that episode this weekend!

Watched the White Collar season premiere. Iiiiiiiinteresting, though time will tell on the recurring plot they introduced. And I'm slightly bemused that Sara is billed as a regular character now, while Jones is still listed as a guest star. Oh, show.

I haven't written anything in just over a week, following a month of madness, but apparently nobody told the voices in my head about the break. I've got multiple stories in four separate fandoms playing themselves out in my head at the moment - not to mention the vids everytime my mp3 player throws out the appropriate songs.

A bit more bizarrely, I'm writing fic exclusively in present tense at the moment. I don't think I've ever done that before, and I've no idea why it's started now. Is this a phase? Am I going to be stuck in present for the rest of my life? Could be worse, I could be writing in future tense.

I finished the Five-0/Doctor Who crossover last night. I swear, it was supposed to be a very simple, very short, cracky story... and then it grew a plot. Just need to get a couple of NFL players for name-dropping purposes from Dad and then I'm good to go. That makes two 10k stories I've written for Five-0 in less than a month. I'm scared. I also need icons.

In totally unrelated news, I'm seriously thinking about signing up for the [livejournal.com profile] five0bang. The writing target for that challenge is 40k... and I actually think it's achievable this time. I even have a stash of bunnies I can mix and match if need be and a couple of ideas in particular that I think could make the word count.

I also need to overhaul my LJ, appearance-wise. I've been saying that for months, but it does need doing. Might set aside an evening next week to have a go at doing it myself.

Mostly, though... day off! :D

It's tv season finale time! I watched Castle and Hawaii Five-0 yesterday. The former was alright, the latter kind of blew my mind. I've already started plotting out an AU take on the last few minutes and the first episode of season 2. That happened to me at about 5.30 this morning because I forgot to shut my blinds last night and I'm a lighter sleeper than I think I am.

The AU takes my 5-0 bunny count up to 3, the others being a crossover and my current WIP.

And then there's the 5-0/Doctor Who epic crackfic that [livejournal.com profile] wihluta inadvertently inspired. Steve as Eleven's sometime companion. IT SHALL BE DONE, OH YES.

And now I'm rewatching Life.

"Why exactly would the universe make fun of us all?"
"Perhaps it's insecure."

I have cinnamon danishes. My world is a better place :D

Watched the Fringe season finale. Mind. BLOWN. I literally have no idea what season 4 is going to entail, and I'm mildly excited about the possibilities.

I've also figured out why I've been losing chunks of time in evenings. It's because I'm reading more, and more good stuff. Yay for getting suckered into stories!

Aaaaaaand I'm writing Hawaii Five-0 fic. Sadly not the one with the zombie apocalypse or the exploding man. Or the crossover. Though I'm told McGarrett has to go shirtless whatever happens, so, y'know. Hypothetically speaking, would anyone be up for betaing this thing at some unspecified point in the future? I have most of the plot worked out already and a sequel, wtf is wrong with me so I'm going to stick my neck out and say I'm fairly confident this one could be finished relatively quickly.

Spent Easter weekend out at The Mother's - and my godfather and his wife, who came down for a long weekend. I haven't seen either of them in years, we can't even remember how long, and for the most part it was fun. Mostly catching up and comparing stories and scars, that sort of thing, all out in the garden, as we've had freakishly glorious weather the last few days. I came away slightly sunburned. In April.

Been marathoning the hell out of Hawaii Five-0, and for a show I've only been watching for little over a week, I've been hit with a couple of plot bunnies already. Both are shaping up to be quite intense so far, which'll be a headache to write, but the fun kind.

Speaking of writing, I've stalled again, which is annoying because I'm still waist-deep in a Primeval story I've been working on for about a year and a half now, but it's another intense deal, so I have to be in a particular frame of mind to write it. Which isn't going to be happening any time soon when my brain's all Steve! Danno! PRETTY PRETTY HAWAIIAN ISLAND BACKDROPS!

Still, back to work tomorrow. Le sigh. Three more solid days of work then another bank holiday for the Royal Wedding, and it hasn't been decided whether we're working that or not. I'm hoping not, because I still need to catch up on sleep. Love visiting the family, don't love the wafer thin mattress on the sofa bed.

I also watched my first and only clip of this year's Britain's Got Talent earlier. You will not be disappointed.

Awesome.

So. Much. FUN!

Everyone's favourite Sheppard/Ronon exchange community [livejournal.com profile] satedan_grabass went live today!

My entry is here. I made a mostly action vid set to a perky showtune!

There's also this rather wonderful vid, as well. The fic posted so far is shaping up to be pretty good as well.

Watched the new Mentalist episode tonight. I could go on about the awesome guest cast this week (Morena Baccarin! Effectively creepy CEO guy! ...the others!), or how I adored the subversion of Jane declaring the murderer at the beginning of the episode and spending the rest of it attempting to prove himself right, as opposed to keeping the team/viewers in the dark until the Big Denouement.

BUT OMG. THIS MAKES IT MAKE SO MUCH MORE SENSE!! spoilers, obviously

*waves little Jane/Cho flag*

In the process of reinstalling everything onto my netbook, after having to take him in to have Windows reinstalled following a few glitches. A scary amount of money later, and I'm back to where I was roughly 18 months ago when I first bought it. Except, you know, the antivirus isn't co-operating and I've got 15 days' worth of free trial to convince the system that I had a legitimate product installed up to 2 days ago, which had about 8 months left on it.

But! The name change is now official, at least in terms of the system registry, or whatever it's called. My netbook is called Boris :D

In other news... blergh. There isn't much in the way of other news. Work continues apace, and I'm trying to convince myself that WIPs aren't the enemy - really.

I've got my assignment for [livejournal.com profile] satedan_grabass to do still, but there's still plenty of time before the deadline to flail, panic and pull the obligatory all-nighter the night before it's due. It's going to be awesome. Viiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiid!

I've just finished watching Better Off Ted, which is a slightly surreal workplace comedy - except, of course, that the workplace in question is an evil multinational corporation hellbent on world domination. And [livejournal.com profile] explodedpen's dad really likes it, which is how I was introduced to it.

It's got two mad scientists, a product tester with a conscience, a lady boss who is terrifying and awesome in equal measure, and a main character who occasionally narrates to camera. And some of the most insane products ever. See subject line ;)

Most of the comedy comes from the characters, which I love, and who are all reasonably well developed from the start, and as a result there are some brilliant lines, which I will make into icons one day :D

So, er, I've not used this thing in a while. I think I spent most of February being exceptionally sleepy, reading the occasional book and watching excessive amounts of Fringe. Good times.

Slowly getting back on track though. Work is sorting itself out and with any luck I won't have devolved into a homicidal rage by the end of April. There's sod all on the television worth watching, and my adult sister thinks that unicorns are an extinct species and that dinosaurs were mythical beasts.

Nothing out of the ordinary, then.
