There's something that's just occurred to me about a certain character arc for series 3.

Morgana spent a year with Morgause. Presumably during this time Morgause told Morgana lots and lots of interesting and biased things about Camelot and the World In Which They Live. And I'm about 99% sure that Morgause knows that Merlin has magic.

...So if that's the case, why didn't she tell Morgana?

Not sure if Morgause does know, to be honest. Although given that she seems to be a pretty powerful magic-user herself, you'd expect her to, wouldn't you?

The writers haven't thought it out terribly well, it seems to me.

I assumed she knew partly based on how she acted when she had Merlin in chains at the end of Tears, Part 1 a couple of weeks ago.

...And I've just pulled up the scene in question, and all Morgause does is refer to Merlin as a lowly serving boy. And then she says he can take his "secret" to his grave. But you're right; I'd expect her to know about him because she is that much more powerful.

A little more consistency (or even clarification) on the rules of magic might not go amiss.

But magic isn't something that's visible just because someone has magic themselves. Right?

Also, Morgause might know, but could have her seekrit reasons for not telling Morgana. She is - after all - using her to her own ends.

I thought that for a while. I also thought it was entirely possible I'm overthinking the whole thing, which wouldn't be new. It just doesn't quite sit right any way I look at it.
