The Wonderful Art of Procrastination...
Mar. 4th, 2007 10:34 pm...aka "101 Ways I Shouldn't Have Spent My Sunday, But Did"
And though it was actually yesterday when I finally gave in, I've also watched "The Return, Part I" this weekend. Is it such a bad thing the only thing thatdidn't make me wanna scream or close PowerDVD down I liked about the episode was the music?
So yeah. I have two essays due in three and a half weeks. Technically one essay and a "research report", but that's 2000 words just like the other one. 2000 words on whether or not freedom is a good thing, and 2000 words on a leader of my choice.
Gladstone, baby. British Prime Minister 4 times in the late 19th century. Ignored the shit building up in Europe in favour of fiddling with Ireland, and making the shit there worse.
I also have until an unspecified time this coming week (the joy of having a German tutor *pokes tongue out at
t_eyla*) to
complete some worksheets and write a 500 word essay plan within the subset of "Religion in US Politics and Culture". I was originally going to go with how the religious views of the assorted PTBs have influenced science fiction, but since brainstorming at around 2 this morning, I've changed my mind *bright grin*
Am now thinking something more along the lines of how compatible religion is with science fiction, with the specific examples of Star Trek (where human religion is all but dead, but alien cultures have thriving religious heritages) and Battlestar Galactica, where the warring humans and Cylons also have opposing polytheistic and monotheistic religious beliefs.
And to quote James T. Kirk himself, "What does God need with a starship?"
Gonna run that one (the essay, not the quote) by the tutor during his office hour tomorrow ;)

I was supposed to be working on a more detailed essay plan for the sources and debates history essay today (henceforth to be known as the Star Trek Essay ;)), but instead ended up playing with Pinnacle. Aside from the moments where it crashes, I absolutely love this program. I've managed to open the second video track and figured out how to overlay one moving scene on top of another, though the sound it produces is a bit, well, hinky (note to self: must remember to mute video tracks before playing back!)

"What does God need with a starship?"
I've always loved this quote. I especially had to keep thinking of it while watching all the SG-1 Goa'ould eps. Where would the world be without the fifth Star Trek movie?
As for the SGA eps... try to work through the pain. It gets better. *Much* better. :)
