Pardon the cuts :)
Jun. 20th, 2009 06:58 pmI've got about a month until I have to submit a draft for the
bau_bigbang challenge. Yeah... somehow I don't think that's going to be happening. I've got so much on my plate at the moment - most of it work, actually. For a country supposedly in the throes of a recession, we've never had it so busy down at work; people are almost unbelievably willing to spend vast amounts of money on curtains. Not that I'm complaining, mind ;) It's just all a little bemusing.
But yeah, big bang challenges. I can see myself creating a couple of trailers for
bau_bigbang with no difficulty whatsoever, since all that takes is a couple of hours to read/reread the fic, and then vid. I just can't see myself completing the writer's challenge with any degree of success, and I don't want to submit thirty-odd pages of dreck just because I couldn't be bothered, or didn't have the time to come up with something better.
sgabigbang is also going slowly, but for a much better reason; I'm still trying to force myself to marathon the DVDs. I'm up to 4.16 "Trio" at the moment, which was better than I thought it would be, even if Keller's characterisation flat out contradicted that of, oh, three episodes previously. Seriously, what?
I've got my little cadre of betas for the challenge together though -
explodedpen,
wihluta and
sita_z have all very kindly agreed to watch my six for the duration of the writing process (or as I like to call it, the flailing madly in a mess of "Oh god oh god this is going to suck beyond all measure" process). Following a conversation with Sita, I'm going to put together a Word or notepad document with the story outline so far, and the bits and pieces of actual plot sequences I've got so far, and send it out for early troubleshooting. I might see if I can create a custom filter on my LJ for the three of you so I can update sporadically and whatnot without breaking challenge rules about public posting. Good idea? Yea? Nay?
Also still working on reimporting Deep Space Nine into Pinnacle so I can vid me some Garak/Bashir. Up to 6.18 "Inquisition", so I'm getting there! :D

Date: 2009-06-20 06:53 pm (UTC)And ta for the heads-up about being internetless. I'm going to be in the same position for a good chunk of July; I've got that long weekend down in Plymouth, then I'm back home for just over a week of solid work, then I'm off to Munich for a week. We've got a huge order on for this lighthouse due in at the beginning of August and despite my plans being finalised and booked long before the order was confirmed, I'm beginning to get grief for being away so much already ;)

Working over the summer sucks. Even if it's a crappy summer. The one good thing about being a teacher is summer holidays, I guess. LOL

Date: 2009-06-20 07:13 pm (UTC)And not only summer holidays, but there are the half terms and other bits as well. One of the joys about being self employed is that I'll be able to take random (though hopefully not to regular!) days off, so I'm sure we'll be able to sort something out.

Date: 2009-06-21 03:16 pm (UTC)Yeah, the filter/tag combination seems to be a good idea; if nothing else it'll be easy to keep track of everything that's going on.
