I booked flights to Munich this morning for the last week of July - finally making it back over to visit
sita_z, yay! - based on radio adverts that a particular low cost airline is offering £50 return flights from a conveniently located (to use, anyway) airport.
And yes... the initial costs are £50 for the return flight. Then on top of that there's a 'handling fee' (jargon for booking, I think), baggage costs, insurance and seat reservations.
The total cost is now something close to £100 for the flights. But I don't care, mostly because it's still cheaper than flying from airports that are further away, and I'm going to Munich. So a bemused hurray all round :D
The Mother and I had a chat about work last night, to the end that I now realise I have a very dedicated support network in place for when I start applying for teaching jobs. I still want to apply for the position in Saudi Arabia (my various neuroses having prevented me from doing so until now), though even if the EFL teaching amounts to nothing more than one or two part time positions locally, and being on the books again locally for temporary work, then that will still be a viable prospect for the long term.
In other news, I've got a tentative plot in mind for the
bau_bigbang, that mostly involves an extended casefic with maybe a few other things happening here and there in case I need padding for the 20,000 word count minimum. Which I shouldn't, really, considering my propensity for epic-length fics, but it's there as a back up nonetheless. Will start plotting that one out over the next week or so, so I have an idea of what exactly I'll be doing in plenty of time for the deadline.
