I just realised I've posted almost nothing for the last few weeks. Um... oops? On the other hand my days are filled with actual productive things and I'm pretty sure I've been sleeping better than I have been in years, so no complaint on that front.

Did alterations today on some hideous (and hideously overpriced) curtains, the owner of which had at some point washed them - shrinkage had ensued, with the result that the lining was longer than the actual curtain. Cue a logistical nightmare of me crawling all over the work table trying to hold various edges and hems in place while trying to restitch said lining back in. We ended up having to clamp the curtains to the table to stop them moving all over the place. Oy.

I've finally got the last of the Criminal Minds DVD rips loaded into Pinnacle - yay me! Speaking of which, I watched the new ep, "Masterpiece" earlier, and afterwards did my usual thing of searching out reaction posts and comparing them to my own opinions. Not my usual thing is me sharing those opinions. Mostly because I rarely make much sense. But here goes :)

One of the biggest gripes I found sifting through reaction posts and whatnot was that the final twist, with the team realising the set up and circumventing the trap was poorly exposited, if at all. I had to disagree on that one. That it was poorly exposited, I mean.

The theme of the episode was of masterpieces and, by association, artwork. The unsub (I can't remember his real name) was fixated on the Fibonacci sequence of numbers (1, 1, 2, 3, 5 etc.), which informed his whole MO. Getting involved with Rossi and the BAU was, as he pointed out to Rossi, an afterthought - something that was missing that was needed to complete the equation, because of Rossi's role in apprehending his brother all those years ago. Bringing Rossi into his murders thus completed his masterpiece.

We saw the whole episode playing out the way "Rothchild" wanted - capturing Reid's attention after the lecture/recruitment thingy, and later Rossi's by insulting his intelligence and challenging his assertions about the nature of serial killers. Despite his request for Reid to interview him, Rossi - the real focus of his need - stayed in to interrogate him, and was seemingly outsmarted by "Rothchild" as he taunted him with the impending death of five people by ten o'clock. The sequence where the team was seemingly sent into the death trap was also part of this masterpiece, part of the unsub's perspective that was to complete his masterpiece and that we as the viewer were witness to. Reid's figuring out of the location of the original five hostages was also part of the plan - which is why we got that dodgy Reid Vision and his brief confrontation with "Rothchild".

The only way I can think to describe this is that we were intended to see the entire episode from the unsub's perspective, albeit with the obvious third person perspective and the inclusion of the scenes that did not take place in interrogation. Until the very last minute everything appeared to be happening according to the unsub's master plan. I think we were supposed to see what he saw, or wanted to see. His masterpiece, to go back to the title of the episode.

Except for the part where Rossi was utterly awesome and metaphorically kicked ass.

All of that's basically a long winded and probably way off the mark way of saying I personally thought this was one of the best episodes of the season so far.

Going back to my original point though... DVD rips have now been loaded into Pinnacle, and I'm going to have a go at making that CM vid at some point, hopefully soon. The song's only a short one, but there's a lot that needs to go in, so I'll have to see how that one goes.

I've also made myself up a little list of vids that I want to make before I do anything else. I've kept it to one per fandom for no real reason other than as a focus tool. Or something. Either way it's a to-do list :)

And in no particular order...

"Round Here" -- Torchwood. Currently a WIP. Sex, death and the art of living.
"All the Little Children" -- Criminal Minds. Reid-centric, heavy on the whump and angst.
"The Scientist Telepath" -- Heroes. Parkman, sort of like a mission statement for the character.
"Touched" -- Deep Space Nine. Garak/Bashir, post-series vid of ANGST AND DOOM. Ahem.
"Ain't No Love" -- House, MD. House's Head/Wilson's Heart-centric.
