Last weekend I went with Mum and her friend to this awesome little cinema up in Hailsham to see Mamma Mia before it stops showing altogether. I've been trying to get her to go all summer, but for some bizarre reason known only to her she only decided to go last week. I went in with some apprehension, having read a few critical reviews beforehand of unsubstantiated plot and some cringe-inducing choreography.

In fairness the film sported both of those, but more than made up in other areas. From an editorial standpoint, it could have done with maybe half an hour's worth of extra dialogue slotted in here and there to make up for some of the more jarring 'plot' twists and turns, even that much.

'Dancing Queen' and 'Lay All Your Love on Me' were a little difficult to watch, but for the most part the choreography was awesome, and the casting was inspired in places. No, Pierce Brosnan can't sing, but he didn't half get behind his performance!

By the time the curtain came down at the end, I had to admit I'd really enjoyed the film. It was an hour and a half of pure escapist fluff, and it never pretended to be anything else.

Then on Wednesday, I was conned into taking the sisters to see High School Musical 3 in Brighton. I have never been so bored in all my life. Okay, I probably have been, but nothing that I can remember from recently.

The entire film revolved around Troy, Gabriella and their Twu Wuv Epic. YAWN. I liked HSM 2 for Chad/Ryan and gay baseball, not this new claptrap about Troy/Gabriella being the centre of the universe and Ryan taking a girl to the prom.

Never mind that getting to the cinema for that one was an ordeal in itself. I was supposed to pick Littlest Sister up from school after work, and head back into town from there, except for the part where she forgot her bus ID, and we missed two buses into town because I had to get change to pay full whack for her fares. Other Sister had been waiting in the cinema foyer for almost half an hour by the time we finally got there. Sat through ninety-odd minutes of sacharrine Disney drivel, and didn't make it home again until almost eight o'clock.

In short, Mamma Mia yay, High School Musical 3 can give me Wednesday afternoon and evening back, please.
