My brother spotted that on the back of a haulage lorry on the M40 this afternoon. We all got a good giggle out of it ;)
So yes. I formally (finally?) graduated from university today, with my BA in History and Politics. A fun day was had by all; the best time was had by my mother, who described the process of having me have my photographs taken as akin to pulling teeth.
(I don't like people taking photos of me. What can I say?)
(Moreso, I hate being the centre of attention...)
All of that aside though, today was a fantastic opportunity to see everyone again before we really do all go our separate ways, although as Becky said, "We'll always have Facebook." (That statement on its own is quite scary, really.) Bumped into
crazy_celebrian at the union where the official photographers were, and then down at the marquee outside the chapel; we discussed outfits, shoes, the crappy weather, graduation robes (she adored hers, me... not so much), parents, the Doctor Who finale and Christmas plans.
Saw a few other people here and there - I was practically glomped by
anako2005 outside the marquee, where I was hurriedly introduced to the extended family she'd brought with her, and in return I pointed out the impossible-to-miss six feet and five inches that was my brother. Also compared teaching aspirations with
jmak_thevoiceof - he's likely going into teaching history, whereas I want first to move abroad and teach English for a while before settling down with anything long-term.
The ceremony itself was... long-winded, shall we say? And running substantially late, since some of the postgrad students graduating this morning arrived several hours late due to train delays. Managed to get through the ceremony in one piece, although scariest of all was the fact that my parents had somehow gotten seats right at the front of the chapel, and Mum was dutifully taking photos of me and all my friends in turn shaking the hands of the Chancellor (a long-winded but well meaning geneticist). Which I can't sodding get off the camera because the batteries decided to die.
In all though we spent eleven hours in the car today, and my parents didn't kill each other! (For the unintiated, my parents have been divorced for years, and although civil with one another over the phone do not do so well together in person.) And I do have to admit, we did get some lovely photos out of today, especially the informal ones under the marquee and on Concourse.
Now I just have to hope this money comes through and I can actually apply for the teaching course I want to get on in the autumn. Right now though, I'm going to bed. Knackered. Night all :)
