As always, instead of actual revising, I start thinking.

- Why is it that I can remember entire chunks of dialogue and facial expressions from SGA episodes that I have watched once, some two or three years ago, but I can't remember the dates of the South African Homelands from reading them an hour ago?

- I know important dates from the history of the Federation (its founding, major wars, the signing of the Khitomer Accords etc.); buggered if I can do the same for the seccession of Biafra from Nigeria.

- Shipping Ngala/Moi is epic wrongness, but I still think it would have made me retain more knowledge when dissertating. Also on the subject of Kenyan politics, I hate that I technically can't answer any questions on it tomorrow lest I repeat material from said dissertation, but it's all I can bloody remember!)

- Despite a year on the ethnic politics of modern Africa, I still know way more about the imperial period and its legacies on the burgeoning African states. Give me a generic question on African nationalism, and I am so there, complete with oblique references to two or more countries.

- Exam technique sucks. Want me to prove that I can retain knowledge on the most boring of topics? Ask me about Georgian interiors, 16th century English Catholicism, or the Kenyan pre-independence shenanigans. I'll even offer you a definitive opinion. Just don't ask me how inevitable shit hitting the federal Nigerian fan was, or what's missing from some academic's pithy quote summarising the faux-independent nature of the South African Homelands was.

- I still hate Kenyan politics. The hate has not abated, people.

- Four exams in the next two weeks. Let's see if I can make it out alive.

Points one and two: Damned if I know why, but it happens to me too, all the time. I mean, I can tell you within seconds of the beginning of an episode of... say MacGyver what's gonna happen in the ep, down to the dialogue (and I haven't seen Mac in years), but I can't remember something 'scientific' I've read in the past half hour. It sucks.

Also: Good luck with the exams!! I'll have my fingers crossed. :-)
