"Andy has joined the 20th century."
Sep. 24th, 2008 12:30 pmSo it turns out that not only do the grandparents have wireless internet, but they also have a super-snazzy laptop to go with it. From what I can gather this came out of what they would have paid to visit the Texas Uncle (but yea verily the insurance was too much, because they are both old and broken).
So I've been here for the best part of two hours now, sloooooooooowly tutoring the Dad and Granny in the ways and means of:
-- setting up individual, password-protected user accounts
-- setting up email accounts
-- accessing the internet in general
The Dad has a bit of a headstart already, as prior to internet here he used to use the free internet service at the local library. This has given him almost no typing skills to speak of, nor has it provided him with any great grasp of internet browsing in general.
He can, however, use Youtube like a pro.
I've also been told several times over the last two hours or so that I will be on regular call to assist with laptop-using endeavours, as not only is this side of the family slow to deal with 'new' technology (even compared to the Mother, who adapted to broadband speed internet pretty quickly), they are all extremely stubborn and cannot handle being told they are wrong.
This could get interesting pretty quickly, methinks.
