10 Commandments
Oct. 22nd, 2007 04:38 pmBecause literature on mass and cadre political parties scares me. Just for fun:
The Ten Commandments of Being a Television (Anti) Hero
1. Thou Shalt Be Crap at Emoting
Sheppard talking with Teyla on the Daedalus on the way to Sateda. Rodney McKay just generally.
2. Thou Shalt Have a Chequered Romantic History
Gibbs is a widower, and since divorced three times. Sheppard has an ex-wife. Starbuck's fiance is dead and repeatedly gets into his brother's military-issue briefs. Don Eppes has commitment issues.
3. Thou Shalt Have a Recurring Nemesis
Gibbs had Ari; Sheppard had Kolya. House had Vogler and then Tritter. For Bones there was Howard Epps, and Jack Malone had Graham Spaulding.
4. Thou Shalt Wallow in Homoerotic Tension
House and Wilson.
5. Thou Shalt Have a Requisite Heterosexual Love Interest
Sheppard's Alien-Chick-of-the-Week Fanclub. Gibbs has Lt. Col. Mann, and House has whoever Ausiello's latest wet dream of a female guest star is [/snerk].
6. Thou Shalt Have a Hobby That Doth Not Coincide With Thy Day Job
Gibbs builds boats in his basement. Bones dates online and Sheppard plays golf.
7. Thou Shalt Have Issues With Authority
Sheppard shot his CO during a rescue mission and doesn't like Caldwell. Gibbs repeatedly puts Jen down, and Starbuck's rap sheet is (almost) longer than Tigh's bar bill. Adama and Cain had a mutual assassinate-the-other-Battlestar's-CO thing going on.
8. Thou Shalt Have a Team of Supporting and Varied Skills
McKay's a genius, Ronon's scary, and Teyla's diplomatic. McGee's a nerd, Abby's awesome, Tony's resourceful and Ziva has crazy madninja Moussad skills.
9. Thou Shalt Save the Day At Least Once Without Thy Team
Sheppard in "The Eye" (and every other time, because the writers are unimaginative that way). House in "Alone".
10. Thou Shalt Always Beat the Odds
Because otherwise they'd be dead/fired/life sucked by the Wraith. And then who would we watch every week?
