The end of a beginning
Jun. 8th, 2008 10:10 pmBeen back at home for a full day and almost half now. It's almost like being in limbo; I'm no longer a student, technically, although that ends formally with graduation in a few weeks' time, but it will take a while before I find gainful employment. so for now I'm slowly unpacking my things and settling into my new room. I can't do everything yet, as I don't pick up my desk until Tuesday or Thursday, depending on various people and circumstances.
It's quite spacious in here, although it could do with a few more shelves! That'll be an ongoing thing, methinks.
Still not entirely sure what I want to do now that uni's finished though. Work is the obvious choice, and right now I'll settle for most anything that won't drive me completely mad. If that even makes sense. I've been thinking about taking a postgrad conversion type course that would qualify me to become a librarian. I have no real desire to go into something like actual archiving, but the library itself is something that could engage my interest over a longer period of time, which I supposed is all I'm after.
Mum's suggested doing a film or editing related course as I get a real kick out of making music videos. It would definitely be possible to work for a year or two to help fund something like that, especially as if it were an undergraduate course I'd be going in as a mature student, and ineligible for everything that got me through the History/Politics degree I've just finished.
I'll have to remember to take a look at Brighton and Sussex Universities at some point soon, as it would make more sense to stay local now.
Speaking of music videos, I've got a Sheppard/Teyla friendship video to make for a thing-a-thon, which I'm looking forward to, mostly because the godsdamn brief isn't impossible -- the last chellenge I signed up for, I explicitly said I would be making a short trailer, and the story the mods assigned to me was a freaking bodyswap fic (I mean, wtf?) -- and I've found a lovely song to work with. The friendship vid is due in by the 4th of July, I believe.
I've also found a couple of multifandom challenges. One's on the Stargate vidding forum, which I haben't been active on in over a year, but still lurk around occasionally, and aside from the rather obvious fandom stipulation, it's an anything goes type of challenge. The second one was issued on
multividious, which I stumbled across last week. The challenge there was to use an instrumental piece of music to create a multifandom vid.
So far all I've got for either challenge is a simple theme, with its own method of execution - space porn *grins* All I need is a suitably poundy, guitar laden musical number, and that's SGA and Battlestar Galactica, possibly with some Doctor Who and/or Firefly added into the mix as well.
All in all, the next few weeks should be fun. I hope.
